PermissionTV is a complete internet television publishing system. Using PermissionTV, media companies can create customized channel guides and use integrated publishing system tools to add program data, such as program descriptions and cast members. Once that’s done, the publishing system can add the dvd quality video directly to the program guide, so it’s available for your audience to view.
PermissionTV tries to attract users by first showing them an all flash (nothing to install) “mode.” After a user has used the flash player for awhile, invitations to download the desktop client are “sprinkled through the channel.”
Advertising is dealt with in two ways. Flash banners can be displayed around videos and PermissionTV also offers “telescoping ads,” which are 5 to 10 second commercials. If a user likes the commercial, they can click on it to watch a longer version.
PermissionTV also helps their clients create a community around their channel with features such as a share button, embeddable players and rss feeds. Furthermore, viewers can have “online parties” around movies and TV shows, where they can chat with each other while watching.
