PayPal

PayPal is an online payments and money transfer service that allows you to send money via email, phone, text message or Skype. They offer products to both individuals and businesses alike, including online vendors, auction sites and corporate users. PayPal connects effortlessly to bank accounts and credit cards.

PayPal Mobile is one of PayPal’s newest products. It allows you to send payments by text message or by using PayPal’s mobile browser.

PayPal created the Gausebeck-Levchin test, which is that blurry box of letters and numbers you have to fill out before completing most online transactions. They created it in the early days to help prevent unauthorized access by automated systems.

When eBay acquired PayPal in October 2002, eBay already had an online payment system of choice called Billpoint. Billpoint was quickly phased out due to PayPal’s popularity, branding and technology.

PayPal’s main competitor is Google Checkout. PayPal Mobile competitors include obopay, TextPayMe and KushCash.

PayPal Mobile is a product that allows you to send PayPal payments using your mobile. You can send payments by either texting the dollar amount and recipient’s phone number to PayPal or by using PayPal’s mobile browser.

There are no additional fees for using PayPal Mobile outside of the normal money receiving fees that apply to Business and Premium accounts. Also, your mobile carrier’s text message charges will apply.

It’s a great answer to when you and all your friends showing up to a restaurant wielding only credit cards, no cash. MobileCrunch had the launch scoop here.

Sad to hear such stories. There are a lot of rogues out there. Personally I am so so cautious about buying on line....I pay for hosting and reputable software only. :(
