Shop5 is a free service that allows Internet users to find and compare the top five websites for products and services across hundreds of categories.
The Shop5 editorial team, comprising both staff and freelance writers, researches and chooses the five best websites in a particular category. Once each site is profiled and added to Shop5.com, registered users may submit ratings and reviews. The position of a particular website in the top five for any given category is determined by a 50/50 algorithm that combines the Shop5 editorial ranking with the overall user ranking.
Shop5 content includes editorial reviews of each of the thousands of sites profiled, as well as a range of information about each site, researched and written by the Shop5 editorial team. Site profiles contain information such as free shipping policies, sales tax, deals and discounts, contact and company management details, and payment methods, as well as numerous other data points.
Although still in the early stages of development, the goal of Shop5 is to provide an alternative to search engines by offering Internet users a way to both simplify the search process and save money.
