OrcaTec provides software and professional services for information discovery, information management, and electronic discovery.
OrcaTec products include the OrcaTec Information Discovery Toolkit, and the Truevert Green Search Engine.
The OrcaTec Information Discovery Toolkit is used in electronic discovery, advertising applications, knowledge management, and Web Searching (www.truevert.com). Our project for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory using this toolkit was nominated for NASA software of the year.
The OrcaTec Information Discovery Toolkit is an easily deployed software appliance, which provides an integrated collection of information analysis and management services. Current modules include:
• Near Duplicate Clustering
• Semantic (concept) Search
• Language Identification
• Interesting Phrase Finder
• Email Threading
A software appliance is an application that is distributed with its own operating system and all systems needed to run and maintain it. It runs on commodity servers or virtual machines. The appliance includes its database and data management tools. It exposes its functionality through a RESTful XML or JSON API.
Truevert is a vertical semantic Web search engine. Each instance of Truevert can be specialized automatically to provide a distinct point of view. The current instance is dedicated to green topics. If you search from a green perspective for “CFL,” you want to see pages about compact fluorescent light bulbs, not the Canadian Football League. Similarly, if you search for “coffee,” you want pages about Fair Trade and organic coffee. And, if you search for “refrigerator” and you expect pages about solar-powered and high-efficiency refrigerators. Truevert can retrieve pages from anywhere on the Web.
Training a new vertical takes only minutes. You don’t have to spend years coming up with a taxonomy, ontology, or thesaurus, which will be obsolete before you complete the task.
Truevert, and the OrcaTec Toolkit, on which it was built, learns the meaning of words the way people do, from the context in which those words are used. So, from a few automatically selected or hand-picked documents, Truevert learns the meanings of the words in its topic area. Truevert can be expanded to cover the Web with topical verticals as broad as “consumer products” or as narrow as a single person’s interests.
In addition to semantic search, Truevert also identifies the themes of the pages that have been retrieved and the interesting words
