OpenSocial Foundation is a non-profit entity jointly proposed by Yahoo, MySpace, and Google. The goal of the foundation is to “ensure the sustainable and open development of the OpenSocial initiative and related intellectual property.” Engineers from all three founding entities work on the project.
OpenSocial is a set of three common APIs, defined by Google with input from partners, that allow developers to access core functions and information at social networks: Profile Information (user data), Friends Information (social graph), and Activities (things that happen, News Feed type stuff).
