| Description | Enterprise Semantic Software |
Ontotext develops semantic software, including an RDF database, a semantic search platform, a web mining platform, and an annotation project management platform. Ontotext is also a developer of commercial text mining applications based on the open-source GATE platform. The company provides professional services for text mining, natural language processing, enterprise search and semantic data integration.
Ontotext was founded in 2000 in Sofia, Bulgaria, as a semantic research lab within the Sirma Group. It attracted significant European VC funding in 2008, leading to its spin-out as a commercial company.
Ontotext has been a core supporter of the linked data movement and of the semantic web. The company’s flagship database product, OWLIM, is based on the open source Sesame platform. OWLIM was recently chosen by the BBC to be at the core of its World Cup 2010 soccer site, where it handled millions of query transactions per hour.
Ontotext is now moving into the U.S. market with a new office in Fairfield, Connecticut.
