Strands develops technologies to better understand people’s taste and help them discover things they like and didn’t know about. They have created a social recommender engine that is able to provide real-time recommendations of products and services through computers, mobile phones and other Internet-connected devices.
Strands started off as MyStrands. Today MyStrands is one of its products, a website, a downloaded desktop and mobile application that works with your current music players to build recommendations based on what you’re listening to. In many ways it’s similar to Last.fm’s “Scrobbling” but MyStrands ties in with your mobile device and provides a social recommendation system. By tying in with music on mobile phones, MyStrands helps tie all of your music collections together.
They recently launched new site for finding music videos hosted by YouTube called MyStrands.tv. The music video search allows you to browse by artist or genre and play them in a fairly large music player. The service is fun because you can build up a queue of videos to watch, plus it recommends videos you might like based on your viewing habits.
They have features like the ability to create your own music video channels and view your friends’ favorite videos.
The music video service is very similar to Middio, MOG and iLike.
