Microsoft

Microsoft is a multinational computer technology corporation. They are a veteran software company, best known for their Microsoft Windows operating system and the Microsoft Office suite of productivity software, but they have also ventured into hardware with consumer products such as the Zune and Xbox. They have made a presence on the Web with the MSN internet portal and Microsoft Live search, but have been widely criticized for their failure to penetrate this market.

The most important IT company in the history from my point of view. Hopefully they will reinvent themselves in the upcoming couple of years.

How about a free Operating System
glenndj@cox.net - October 13, 2008 at 5:40pm
How about a free Operating System? Unix did it, and so did Linux. And can you make it so that a user can pick and choose each file, explaining in detail what each file is for and what it does? Offering the source code for everything. And do this totally from scatch - not dependent or necessarily compatible with other versions? Come on research and development - Go Microsoft.

Actually, August Capital did not invested in Microsoft, but David F. Marquardt, General Partner at August Capital did. Technology Venture Investors (TVI), one of his previous firm, was the sole venture investor, pouring $1 million into Redmond's future giant probably around 1981, five years before the IPO. In the 1990s, the microsoft corporation was the best. Without it, billions of programs would never been made. It started the future of computers and have helped google, apple, yahoo, even crunch base on its way. Aplle is their 1st enemy, but in the internet world you could use others technology to your technology! Good job Bill, its sad that you no longer is the chairman, the corporation will not be as huge with out you!!

Question ive always wondered: Who originally funded microsoft as a VC? I know August Capital is one. How many rounds were raised?
