Metacafe is a social video site that algorithmically filters what appears on the site. Users and content producers are allowed to submit any videos they want but Metacafe uses its filtering algorithm VideoRank to choose the “most entertaining” and “high quality” videos. The site pays producers of videos with over twenty thousand views and a high rating.
The site focuses mainly on individual video uploads but is trying to build up its content producer channels feature. The channels feature is currently in beta mode and they are trying to build buzz around it with the Bourne Ultimatum mash-up channel.
Metacafe also has a studio feature where they highlight specific producer channels and provide video directing tips and tricks. They aim for the studio feature to be a launching point for aspiring directors.
Metacafe has also partnered with Skype to allow Skype users to share their favorite videos with each other and view each others moods.
