Meraki came out of a research project at MIT back in 2006. Meraki has grown rapidly from its modest roots. It now provides software and hardware for wireless networks used in offices, hotels, stores, and other large areas.
Meraki is funded by Sequoia Capital, DAG Ventures, Northgate Capital, and Google. It received a $20 million series B in January, 2008.
The company also operates a free WiFi network covering about 4 square miles in San Francisco.
