Magnify.net is a social video site that lets website publishers create video channels for their sites that are stockpiled with videos from popular video-hosting sites like Revver, Youtube and Kyte. Users can upload video to their channels using video URLs or by searching for video from the Magnify.net site. Videos are searchable by text, tags or reviews. The approach is different than most video sites that depend on users to upload their own content. The site uses Amazon’s S3 storage service to deliver the scale needed for their customer base.
Magnify.net allows channel publishers to set permission for channel viewers, so channel viewers can upload their own relevant videos to the channel. This allows for interaction between website publishers and their readers (or viewers). Once viewers’ uploaded videos have been approved they can be rated, commented, tagged and shared.
They recently launched a new ad program called the Magnify AdShare Platform. The new ad platform will monetize video channels and share earnings with the website owners. The ads will consist of banners ads around the video, not in-video ads.
You can view the channel they created for TechCrunch here. All video channels have RSS feeds so viewers can stay up-to-date at all times.
Competitors include Dabble.
