Localist.com helps people manage their social lives. While at its core, Localist provides detailed listings of events and venues in a city, the serviceʼs real power lies in its ability to help people organize and share their social calendars by making plans with friends and staying informed about events and places that might interest them.
Local business listings and reviews have long existed; personal and business-oriented calendars are nothing new. But such disparate offerings remain trapped in their own bubbles, and have failed to take advantage of the immense benefits garnered by bringing that data together.
Amazon has become such a retail powerhouse because it made it easy for people to manage their purchases in one place and leverage the valuable data thatʼs gathered from other Amazon users. Localist aims to do the same thing for an individualʼs social life.
It has already become commonplace for people to announce to friends where they are or plan to go via Status updates on Facebook and Twitter. But this data is almost worthless because it contains no context. Localist takes that same information and links it to the real world, where it becomes actually worthwhile.
