Liftopia is a complete online ski marketplace, offering the largest source of discount ski lift tickets online with added deals on rentals, lessons, dining and other mountain-related activities and products. With deals at more than 150 resorts across North America, Liftopia offers skiers and snowboarders the ability to buy date-specific lift tickets and other on-mountain activities online and in advance for up to 80% off the ticket window prices.
Liftopia takes the hassle out of planning a ski trip by enabling skiers and riders to book lift tickets, equipment rentals and lessons in advance at the best prices. The site offers detailed information on mountain resorts, including services and amenities, and the ability to browse user reviews to help skiers and boarders research and choose the best resort for their needs.
Liftopia helps deliver incremental customers to mountain resorts for free through its online ski marketplace. Liftopia’s proprietary technology enables ski resorts to better manage inventory and pricing during high- and low-demand periods for everything from lift tickets, rentals, and lessons to other on-mountain activities, such as dining. On the back-end, Liftopia’s system provides resort management with advanced analytics to easily track performance over time and make more informed pricing and yield management decisions. The non-refundable policy on tickets and activities sold through Liftopia makes it a low-risk proposition for resorts with no upfront costs.
Liftopia was founded by two former Hotwire.com employees, Ron Schneidermann and Evan Reece. The company raised a small seed round in 2005 from friends and family. In 2008 they raised $500,000 from Erik Blachford, Sand Hill Angels, Sam Shank, Dave Pell, David Hehman, Russ Holdstein and others. In 2009 they raised $1,000,000 from Amicus Capital, existing investors and select new angel investors including Richard Chen. Jacob Sevlie has been developing the platform since 2008. In late 2009, Liftopia made their first full time hire and brought on Rob Webb as VP of Product.
