Kauplus Social Commerce
Kauplus is the newest venture in the Brazilian social commerce market. Created by Rafael Barbolo and Rafael Ivan Garcia and launched in December 2011, the company aims to spice this segment in Brazil, and is the only free social commerce platform in the country.
The company adopts a different strategy from its competitors. While other services provide stores on Facebook by charging transaction fees or paid subscriptions, Kauplus provides a full-featured platform for free. “We believe in the power of social networks in Brazil and that it should be easy and free to run a store in this growing environment”, emphasizes Barbolo.
With a background on e-commerce companies and startups, having developed a partnership with BuscaPé (the leading e-commerce company in Brazil invested in by Naspers) in early 2009, the founders of Kauplus are developing a freemium model in which store owners will have all standard plus many cool features for free, but will be able to buy extras, like special reports or full appearance customization.
Sellers can add unlimited categories, products, photos and administrators to their stores. It’s also possible to customize the basic appearance of the store according to its branding and offer special discounts for fans. Sellers that need specific integration with other platforms can use the Shop API.
Shoppers can review and recommend products, buy items from multiple stores and share experiences with their friends through a built-in shopping feed mechanism. New experiences are coming soon through a shopping mall app for browsing products and stores along with the usage of new Facebook verbs and objects.
In the first two months, more than 300 stores signed up on the service. Most of them are facing a period of discovery, with each one trying different social actions to attract new shoppers. “At Kauplus, we track the performance of stores and are constantly improving our platform to help all sellers better manage their social presence and increase their sales”, explains Garcia.
Currently, Kauplus enables sellers to open their stores only on Facebook. However, the company wishes to expand its services and has plans to bring the social commerce platform to Twitter, Google +, Smart TVs and mobile devices.
