Xchar is a social community focused on the award winning massively multiplayer online roleplaying game (MMORPG) World of Warcraft (WoW) by Blizzard Entertainment. The main idea of Xchar is to bridge the gap between the players’ anonymity within the game and the real life people who are behind each of those characters. This is achieved by linking the in-game characters to the users’ profiles, which opens up many new interesting connections and relations beyond things like groups, private messages and discussion boards which you find in any ordinary social community.
The Xchar developers even created an in-game addon for World of Warcraft which allows users to see the real life pictures of other players when they encounter them in within the game, further breaking the wall between the virtual world of a computer game and the players’ real life.
Following its success in Germany with Xchar.de they have now launched their English version at Xchar.com, offering the same innovative social community platform to the English speaking players of World of Warcraft.
