Polish technology of an image recognition.
iTraff Technology Sp. z o.o. is a company which was founded as an initiative of Arek Skuza, Wojtek Radomski, Paweł Elbanowski and Marcin Szajek. The company is working on technology of photo recognition and its implementation in systems iOS and Android. The company was founded at the beginning of February of 2011 and it entered a market of mobile applications with application SaveUp. Application recognizes a picture of a book cover taken by a user and returns a list of prices of a given book and its electronic versions (ebook, audiobook) in different Internet stores. Image recognition technology uses characteristic points of an image and based on that, it searches for similar pictures and metadata correlated with them in the database, and then it returns selected data. Polish technology of an image recognition have been compared to the application of the famous internet tycoon - Google Goggles. In iTraff, besides technology, people who account for the core of the company are the key element.
SaveUp
SaveUp is an application which uses image recognition technology developed by iTraff. SaveUp works on iOS, and soon it will be available for Android. SaveUp is a mobile application which allows user to make an immediate purchase by using a camera of a user’s smartphone. You take a photo of a book you want to purchase, the application recognizes it and then returns offers which are available online. Proposals are presented in order from the cheapest to the most expensive one, which helps the user to select easily the most profitable offer from the available ones. Currently there are more than 20 bookstores in the database with over 140 000 unique books (5 offers for every book on average). Multimedia will be the next assortment of goods which could be checked with the application SaveUp.
Art4Europe
Art4Europe is an application developed during international competition Hack4Europe. The Europeana Foundation was responsible for organization of the competition. For the purpose of the competition the foundation made available its database containing 19 million records in a form of a specially prepared API regarding mainly paintings. Application Art4Europe identifies paintings based on photos taken by a camera of a smartphone. Then it recognizes an art piece, giving an information about an author and a title. The information about it downloaded from the Europeana Foundation are then translated into selected language and replayed (through a speech synthesizer). The application can also save a history of browsing. The application won in a category of „software of the highest commercial potentialâ€. The application Art4Europe became adjusted to system Android. It is not commonly available.
