iStockphoto is a marketplace for stock images, videos and audio tracks, with a file downloaded somewhere in the world every second. The site’s library contains over 6 million stock photos, vector illustrations, Flash files, video footage and audio from over 80,000 artists. Once approved by the site, photographers can upload their images and receive 20-40% of each sale. Photos & illustrations range in price (depending on size and complexity) starting from $1. The company pays member artists more than $1 million weekly in royalties.

iStockphoto never had VC funding or investors before being acquired. The company’s competitors include Shutterstock, Zooomr, Dreamstime and Fotolia.
