Intellius appears to be selling credit header data - information gathered for credit reports. If so this is illegal. The scam associated with their Identity Monitoring program is a clear violation of consumer rights and deserves to be investigated by every AG. Jain has deep pockets and the states have a lot to gain by going after every penny he has!

I discovered it almost immediately when they charged my PayPal credit card an unauthorized $19.95. I called the Intelius and they said they would reverse the charge. It's been 3 hours. The reversal shows in my Intelius account, but not at PayPal where the charge is still marked as "pending". So they haven't really reversed the charge. PayPal won't allow an official complaint on a charge that's still marked as "Pending". This whole thing stinks like rotting fish.

I just spent a couple of hours with my credit card agents and with Intelius after discovering that I had "subscribed". The account was canceled by the very friendly young lady at Intelius and my credit card account credited appropriately by their agent. Fortunately I check my account on-line daily and discovered this ripoff in time to stop it. The people running Intelius are criminals and someone must put a stop to their activities.

I am fed up with scams like this. As a hard working American citizen who is trying live right in these hard economic times I refuse to be a victim. Intelius scammed the wrong person this time. I am going to wage a personal war against this company and it's subsideries (Privacy Matters etc.. and make them pay. Leagally, ethically and morally. It;s companies like this that become the AIG's of the world and in the end we all have to pay.

When trying to do a reverse phone lookup inquiry, I also accidentally clicked through what looked like an advertisement, and was billed $19.95 for a subscription. I called them (on hold for 20 minutes) - they said they will cancel it, but I'm on the hook for the $19.95 charge - no refund. They had a ready answer for me, so I assume this has happened to a lot of people. I sent their customer service department an e-mail to confirm the cancellation, but I'll still be watching for any subsequent charges.

I was recently ripped off by intelisus with the same bait and switch scam. They billed my credit card for 6 months. They said they sent me monthly emails on the invoices. I did not see one until Jan 2009? I would like to initiate a class action suit if there are any lawyers out there.

People should read rippoffreport.com and complaints.com before you buy stock in this company. They gave my information to another company for unauthorized charges and I was charged 9 months at 19.95. They use to be good and reliable; I almost wonder if the same people are running it. Check your bank statements very carefully if you ever use the site.

I was also duped by Intelius, however I can not believe that w/ all the negative publicity for them , they are still up and running. If you search for the name Intelius, your results are 1) the company its self and results 2 through 3,380,000 are about what a scam this company is. Unbelievable they are still allowed to run a shady business that steals millions from their unsuspecting customers. The only reason there is not suit against them is because IF you are lucky enough to catch them and get a hold of a customer service rep (after 45 min of holding) they do refund the money they stole from you...how nice.

Intelius runs a very successful bait and switch subscription scam that probably brings in millions of dollars of ill-gotten profits for the company every year. Please see my complaint concerning Intelius, if you're interested. You will find it at Squeaky wheel. com.

Unbelievable - I found the aforementioned article while trying to track down this monthly credit card charge, and find that this company (with a former Vice Joint Chief of Staff of the US military as Chairman!) has scammed me for hundreds of dollars. Is there a class action in the works yet?

Intelius Revealed as a scam It turns out that the facts are in and there is no question that Intelius is a scam. What they do is outright theft from consumers. For all of the details, see the excellent blog at: http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/05/29/naveen-jains-intelius-prepares-to-go-public-how-much-of-their-revenue-is-a-scam/ Many people on blogs and comments have said they felt that these guys at Intelius deserve to be in jail. Read the TechCrunch story and the various comments and decide for yourself. There are also numerous web site where consumers have complained about these guys.

It is hard to believe that anyone can get away with such a blatant scam. The people underwriting this IPO are just as fraudulent as Intelius. It is one big consumer and investor rip-off. What type of people can work at Intelus knowing they are just ripping people off every day?
Sarah - June 14, 2008 at 7:17pm
I had a customer service issue with intelius.com and was told by the customer service rep via email to "POOP IN A SHOE". I can safely say that I will never use them again!!!
Scammer - May 30, 2008 at 1:26pm
Intelius is a scam. I recommend everyone looking for the services Intelius offer to look elsewhere. But be weary, Intelius has bought countless websites and makes a killing without the user ever knowing it was actually Intelius owned.
