Insider Pages is a user generated review site for local businesses. The site, originally founded by idealab, has “nearly 600,000 customer reviews of local businesses in categories ranging from dentists, doctors and hairstylists to plumbers, realtors and restaurants.”
In January of 2007, Insider Pages reportedly laid off 2/3 of their total staff. Two months later the company was acquired by Citysearch.
Competitors include Intuit’s Zipingo and Yelp.

Insider Pages is similar to the yellow pages, but it also has user reviews. Once you punch in your location, categories such as “Automotive,” “Retail shopping” and “Personal Care” fill up your screen. You can then dive into a category, select a business, and find out everything you need to know about it. That includes pictures, phone number, address, map, website, rating, description and user reviews.
The site also has a “Get Advice” section where users can ask any questions on their mind. This section doesn’t feel extremely active (there were only 6 questions in the last 24 hours when we checked), but most questions do seem to get a response or two. If you do respond to a question, it will be listed under your personal profile along with your Insider Pages friends and reviews.
