IMVU

Founded in 2004, IMVU Inc. (www.imvu.com) is an online destination where adults and teens meet new people in 3D. IMVU won the 2008 Virtual Worlds Innovation Award and was also named a Rising Star in the 2008 Silicon Valley Technology Fast 50 program. Still in public beta, the company has already reached major milestones, including 25 million registered users, 100,000 registered developers and $1 million in revenue each month. Members of IMVU have fun meeting new people with similar interests and expressing themselves through personalizing their 3D avatars, digital rooms, music, and home pages. IMVU offers the world’s largest digital goods catalog with over 1.8 million items. Over 90 percent of IMVU’s revenue is from the direct sale of virtual credits, used to purchase digital products. IMVU is backed by top venture investors Menlo Ventures, Allegis Capital and Bridgescale Partners and is located in Palo Alto, CA.

You can find a sample video of IMVU here and information about other virtual applications here and here.

IMVU is a good for the 3D experience, you can chat with almost anyone, or if your not in the mood to chat you can be in "Do Not Disturb" mode if your on the IMVU messanger. The catalog is where many IMVU users who have bought their IMVU name (Taking the Guest_ out of whatever username you choose), make products which you can buy and put on your IMVU avatar. I think the only downside to it, which many site have, is to buy things you usually have to purchase IMVU credits. IMVU credits have went up on their prices over the years.

i am constantly frustrated by the inability of the program to do what is claimed t can do. I find the Help system is at best not useful at all I find that the software program itself as had so many faults and flaws since the v410 has been release. Nothing seems to have improved in subsquent releases we are not up to 412 and the problems that arose in 410 have not been addressed and I believe are now worse than ever. IMVU help is quite happy to try and shift the blame of the problems onto anything else except for the program they have created. There are also I believe serous systems failures with in the organization itself which most member that are the clients of IMVU are aware of but are to scared to say anything about. If this company was in Austrlaia I believe with the level of incompidence I have seen it would have folded long ago. Instead the company continues to boast about the monthly profit it is making and yet is not doing anything fix many of the fundamental issues that need fixing.

this is a badly made program that isn't well laid out or easy to use it has had many complaints about several things and it is over rated. i also believe that this is something that is made for people of younger years that dont want to have to go through downloading or such hard work to do the obly thing people want to use this for which is the avatar and just to make it lok like you is a long enough task on its own .

I'm sorry to say this but... your game has damaged my computer, I'm not sure how but ever since I opened your game something with my cursor is wrong. It freezes about every 5 seconds, and then doesn't move for 10 seconds, I'm not sure if this has to do with my pc or not but it was working fine before I ran IMVU. Uh oh... I also just now incountered a new issue. I can't find my cursor! Okay finally I've found it. And it's gone again...
Darling - May 7, 2009 at 5:39pm
LadiesMagnet25: If your account has been disabled then it was either Payment Fraud or you have been reported numerous times from other members for some reason. I am not saying that this is the case with your account, but usually the reason the most common reasons. Submit a Help Ticket(you will have to make another account to do this). Ask them what the reason is. They will eventually send you a reply and let you know.

IMVU Rules!!!!! everyone else are just stupid and ignorrant people who do not have the power to control what there kids do on the Computer. There are settings provided most every computer now. So Parents all you have to do is adjust be a parent and set the computer settings to your approval. Please Quit Blaming IMVU and other programs for your issues. I have used IMVU for a year already and have not had any of these problems.

I am a 13 year old programmer and i do know what some of the viruses are that imvu has packaged into IMVUClient.exe the programs executable makes it like a Trojan. some virus scanners detect it. some do not. I recomend anyone with imvu installed or was installed goto http://saftey.live.com it will let you scan your computer free of charge and you can always use it. Go there and try to save your computer. Windows XP is installed on one computer i hav and the virus is spreading inside the billions of codes on the hard drive. IMVU slows computers down. sometimes your best bet is to use a system recovery disk to reinstall factory operating system. or the defualt system you want it to run. LINUX runs faster than windows. I use Mac OS X and have crossover installed so my computer is not affected by imvu virus.
TJ - May 2, 2009 at 10:24am
tavymarie if you mean your avatar was changed then in any chat type in *use 80 that should do it. and imvu is not the best program out there. you can find better programs this one here may have 3d graphics wich attract kids by the use of avatars. IMVU is not a scam either. At launch of the project all they intended on was this being a fun chat program. Now it has turned into a sexually based chat program because people are careless.

imvu, is a very discriminatory site. They have favorites that they cater too, and often will let known felons wander as well as predators and do nothing about it, I have been subject to discrimination by IMVU staff over and over again. They don't care about eh children and will say anything to avoid litigation. Someone really needs to come and shut this place down. Im a dev ..i have worked hard for everything i have done, but they will let child molesters run FREE even AFTER they shut them down, they let them back onto the site and say oh we have no proof even when their REAL life PICTURE is posted in their homepage gallery! there has been an avatar that has been harrassing everyone for example it took them over 2 years t finally remove this person meanwhile thousand of other were deleted for no reason or disabled. I have done all I can to make a difference, but it is clear to me IMVU only cares about one thing $ and parent don't let your kids get on this site, I am a responsible adult, but i am the VERY few..compared to the molesters, predators, and perverts, felons, abusers, hackers, and mentally ill people, they let take over the site...I have PROOF even that a well known pro dev is having a cyber relationship with a teenage girl, and imvu does NOTHING even after screen shots were turned in ....that in a nutshell is IMVU....

this is not safe for teens! beware! just another myspace with cartoon characters to lure children to perverts and pedophiles! i am contacting my local police! there are actual pictures of people! this site is not safe! very deceiving!!!
Kristiana - March 7, 2009 at 11:00pm
I don't like this program at all. I had an account before and it was hacked and deleted and i was told directly by an IMVU staff member that they needed copies of my birth certificate and junk honestly thats CRAP! so i made a new one and it was all good until updats started coming out. these updats gave my computer 3 trojans horses thousands of other threats honestly this is a complete waste of time!
Anonomous - March 5, 2009 at 6:02pm
I am chuckinling a little bit about the one complaining about only two days in peer review. How about trying that a number of us are seeing 10 + days in peer review before we see some of our products come out of it. So 2 days is a blessing if that is what you saw.
lace - February 26, 2009 at 7:00am
the only problem i am having is that vista and imvu do not get along and i am having one heck of a time trying to devolvop on here. and i go to the forums for help and get reamed out. imvu needs to get together with vista and straigthen it out so others with same problem can dev. as i am trying to do.
steph - February 24, 2009 at 2:23pm
I am a IMVU user and I love the programe. its a fun way. I do hate the peer Review a ton. but I think that IMVU should secure its site from under-age children. the game is great except the swearing, attacks and money spent into IMVU. The language is a huge iss. Since Im 19 I feel that even having a little 12 year old cussing me out is wrong. IMVU should be able to block certain words. Secondsly peer review SUCK! I just submitted a product about 2 days ago and its still in waiting for it to pass. I miss the old days with instantly there. I support IMVU for its program but I believe that IMVU Could come up with some better security. HinaAly

Shahnaz - February 9, 2009 at 11:46am
I have an account with IMVU. But the difference is that I can't download IMVU on apple computers but IMVU did say they was going to make one for the apple computers but it was going to be real soon so don't know when that is going to be.
shaniah - January 31, 2009 at 9:06am
hello this is shaniah i had my IMVU account hacked and all i want to knoww is an email of an customer service person that will give me my acccount back i dont want a person that starts askingg me all these questions because i hate that i only want my pass back.
katie - January 30, 2009 at 9:01pm
what is with all the horrible comments about imvu? If you don't want AP or VIP don't buy it..point blank.. They are a company by the way.. just like any company, they have to make money in some way. Walmart cant give things away for free or it wouldnt last.. AND if you want to use imvu free you can, it only cost money if you want all the extra stuff.. and as far as viloating young children?? umm it doesnt, anything that is of adult content is under the AP in order to access an AP pass you have to use a credit card (which are only available to ppl over 18) or you can get it by sending a check..with a copy of your drivers license.. hmm now if a child steals there parents ID, or credit card, the parent will find out... Ive used the game for 3years, they have never deleted my account, stole my credits, taken my AP pass away, or robbed me in any way.. :) I only spend the money that i can afford for credits. My bills are still payed, i still have food, gas, shelter lol its just a fun site.. its not that big of a deal people..
Vania - January 28, 2009 at 9:59pm
Well I just started playing this for a couple months, vip and ap. And i didn't give out any info, and somebody still took my account, and pretend they were me. Asking my buddies for credits and gifts. So in a situation i reported it, and flagged them. I haven't got any respone back or nothing, And all the money and time I have invested in this site.
Katherine - January 15, 2009 at 11:33am
If you knew anything about IMVU or ever gave it a chance longer then 2 weeks you'd realize it's actually awesome. I've been playing it for 3 years and it is safe as mess. The only way you aren't safe is if YOU give your info. So lay off, you don't know a thing.
Jeff - January 12, 2009 at 6:20pm
I Think IMVU Is Okay But I Can Tell You This Nobody Under The Age Of 13 Should Have An Account On IMVU Period I Once Found A 9 Year Old On IMVU I Contacted IMVU And They Deleted That 9 Year Old Account People Are Not Reading The Terms Of Service It Actual State Not To Lie About Your Age But I found Out A Lot Of People Have Lied About Their Age There Is Not A Lot Of People Working For IMVU. And Another Thing These Teenagers Don't Understand Anything About Rules And Regulations That Each Website Has To Follow If The FCC Found Out That IMVU Is Not Monitor There site Like They Should Be. IMVU Can Get In Big Trouble If The Site Says A Certain Age And That Person Is Not That Certain Age When They Sign Up. Too Many People Lie About Their Age Just To Get On My Friend Account Has Been Hacked So Many Times That He Is tired Of IMVU And Those Think That People Saying Bad Things About IMVU Is Wrong It Actual Not People Who Have Been On IMVU Knows More Stuff Of What Going On IMVU THan People Just Signing Up I Am An Adult And I Am Tired Of How Things Are Running On IMVU They Even Sent My Friend A Nasty E-Mail Telling Him If He Didn't Like It Stay The Blank Off It And All He Did Was Send In An E-mail Telling Them That HE Was Tired Of His Account Being Hacked. And Some Teenagers Won't Understand It Until Their Account Is Taking Away From Them. But To Tell You The Truth If IMVU Make Rules They Need To Follow Through Instead Of Not Doing Anything About It. IMVU Would Be Great If They Didn't Charged For Everything Like VIP And Access Pass That Too Much For A Pass And Really That's A Lot Of Wasted Money Too I Rather Pay Bills Than Spend Too Much Money On IMVU
shani - January 3, 2009 at 12:24pm
heyy everyone i think imvu is a great chance to make new friends and i dont think that any of you should frown apon it because imvu has done a lot to just try and make it seem safe. i am 16 and i have a 6 year old friend that has imvu and thinks its fun. no it does not sound safe but she will always have a parent with her and she will always take care of herself. so all of you that are saying nasty things about imvu it is just not right. how about all of you try and make a site, and have it turn out just as well as how well imvu did, do u think you could do that ? because im am sure i would not come close. yes my imvu account has been hacked before but im not saying imvu is a horrible site just because it happened to me. because there is a lot of work being put into imvu just trying to make it fun for al of us. so shame on all of you for trying to do such a nasty thing and and saying imvu is not a good sute because they put in long hours just for all of us. -shani <3
smh - December 31, 2008 at 10:47pm
imvu the biggest joke ever!!! people waste all thier moneys on some lame game or chatroom nd wdf access pass?....... u can actually see naked bodys i mean most of the ppl on it are underaged kids they can just take thier parents cridet card nd buy a access pass simply like that i think this game should be sued nd some ppl r over 30 year old nd they talk to teens 10 nd over?.... this is just sick they should be sued!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kaen - December 30, 2008 at 4:45pm
Don't even post questions here I assure you imvu goes not care about their customers AT ALL. They run programs that allow underage children to do and see nudity and sexual content ALL THE TIME. There is nothing keeping predators from using this to stalk and exploit children. Imvu DOES MAKE UP RULES AS THEY GO ALONG............never answering customer questions and not even having a phone number people can use to contact them. I am seriously hoping someday they get their pants SUED OFF and some other more intelligent person creates a similar program that is run MUCH BETTER THAN STUPID IDIOT IMVU.
Karen - December 30, 2008 at 4:40pm
I have been on imvu since October of last year and I have seen SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS PROGRAM. It is very poorly run and has a very inept management team. They simply do what they want with the program and delete accounts without reason or delete groups, take credits, take products............THIS PROGRAM IS A SCAM AND SO MANY PEOPLE USE IT AND ARE LOSING MONEY. I will be contacting IMVU sponsors to let them know of all the fraud that takes place on this program's content.
Daniel - December 18, 2008 at 9:27pm
IMVU is a joke. It's a big scam to get money. Don't pay for the "Access Pass" cause they will ban your account, take your pass away, and then give your account back so you will buy another. They ban accounts for no reason. Also if their feeling greedy they will take all your credits you bought.
Taylor - December 13, 2008 at 3:38am
Imvu is an awsome IMing program. ive had myn since i was 11 and im 13 now. its the best IMing program evr made. i support IMVU in evry way possible.
gataeyez - December 12, 2008 at 1:56am
It is my opinion imvu is not a place for anyone under 18!! If people do not want their kids on this site then block it and talk to your children about what is acceptable for them and what is not and why sometimes we forget that we was once kids and saying not too sometimes lead to making them more curious if talked to it takes some curiousity away not always lol imvu is suppose to be a fun cartoon place for adults. Kids have their own cartoon fun lol
gataeyez - December 12, 2008 at 1:46am
I have been waiting 10 days to get my account back. Was told its just a matter of waiting not to worry imvu will get it back as soon as they could its the holidays the time is slower this time of the yearI was wondering if anyone knows what the longest time it has taken others to get their accounts back. Thanks gataeyez
kandiikoatedkissez - December 5, 2008 at 8:03am
my first account got deleted by mistake and i want it back. i spent a lot of money on this account and had some irreplaceable stuff. i contacted the web site administrators a few times and nothing has happened ... not even so much as a message back to me. do u have ne suggestions? my email is heatherlreed@aol.com. thank you
eva - October 31, 2008 at 5:23pm
tavymarie you can change your gender on account settings. when u go to ur page theres a hyperlink to it on top of the page. the first panel shows ur member profile (name age and gender) and next to the gender it says change.....click on that and I think that would have to do it
eva - October 31, 2008 at 5:08pm
mimi it says in the imvu terms and conditions that you have to be 13 and over to even make an account....personally I think that if (not saying that happened)your daughter gets on a site like imvu which takes a while to figure out and actually gets into a (sexually) explicit situation herself, you stayed away from the computer 4 way too long. U cant put the blame on external factors too much when you should do your job raising your kid......not IMVU.....and people say fuck you on the street and in stores and other public situations too. and again.....its not a website for kids........there are more kid friendly chatsites. Maybe you should introduce your kid to those sites so that they dont have to go on imvu. If I find there are kids under 15-16 on imvu I always ask them if their parents know theyre on there and if not I try to convince them to leave couse its not safe (not that they listen)
just me - October 21, 2008 at 8:45pm
imvu has recently begun confiscating already bought names and reselling them, although they were sold as ours forever. WTF! They are making up policy as they go. it's a shame that management is causing the demise of what would otherwise be a rather cool place. They have no customer service whatsoever and staff is RUDE. Buyer beware in a big big way over there.
gatts - October 12, 2008 at 9:27pm

daniel - October 12, 2008 at 9:24pm
imvu is down for some reason please tell me wats going on
Haeora - September 29, 2008 at 1:25pm
Mimi , Do not even dare try to put blame on IMVU. It is your own fault that the child was able to axcess this site , download it , and begin chatting with other people. Obviously you do not supervise her enough , and she doesn't know her boundaries. I use IMVU , and I'm not appauled at the disgusting/and or filthly language people use nowadays. :P

linda - June 30, 2008 at 10:35am
I need this to be compatible with apple please
iDev - June 14, 2008 at 2:13pm
PEER REVIEW!!! is the worst thing imvu ever came up with
BroCharly - June 4, 2008 at 6:59pm
peer review? HA! what a joke. If your a dev and you DON'T participate in peer review, submit a product and see how long it takes before it gets reviewed and entered into the catalog. Yet you receive no renumeration for doing the work that IMVU staff should be doing, weather it's virtual renumeration, being able to keep your adult purchases (AP holders) etc.
another - June 1, 2008 at 3:26pm
Am i understanding right that if you call them with a credit card you are "age verified"? If that is so, cant any kid use their parents, sisters, brothers, ext cards to say their 18?
hi - May 25, 2008 at 7:07am
hey why don't you guys, make imvu compatible with apple computer.
Ryan - May 23, 2008 at 4:12pm
Also, peer review is optional, those users who want to do it can. it was introduced to stop the grief flaggers who would flag everything in the catalog because they couldn't afford it
Ryan - May 23, 2008 at 4:10pm
IMVU has its ups and downs. Like any other chat website there is the concern for pedophiles and stalkers. Parents should take extra care if they know that there child has an account on this website. Put on your private investigator outfit and search your child's chat logs and see what they have been saying. Be warned you will have to read carefully because it is full of numbers, when ever they put something on, take it off, add furniture, remove furniture, change rooms, etc, it will be listed in the log, even when they move their avatar or interact with another. Parents can feel a little safer because your children can not actually have "sex" on the website, there are sexual things in the chat and in the catalog but they are for users with the Access Pass. A user 18+ can get this pass to have some adult fun during there time there, but you must verify your age and name with your credit card in order to get one, because you also get "Age Verified" when you purchase an Access Pass. ~Ryan (Refuge on IMVU)

IMVU is A joke People at IMVU lie too Its customer base Thy are deciteful Force it developers into doing IMVU's job With a thing called peer review It.s client is full of bugs Crashes and lags all the time But rather then fix these bugs They come out with updates That have yet even more bugs
Mark - May 19, 2008 at 4:31pm
Enjoying the chat with many people from around the world. Reminds me of the excitement of the late 1980s when IM got popular for a while and then people pulled back and only chatted with friends mostly. Cool 3 D chat enjoying it. Good work. Mark from Colfax CA

what where they doing in that chat room eny ways if they didnt like it they would leave but they didnt
Mimi - April 28, 2008 at 8:36am
I was very disturbed to find that my 11 year old daughter and her friend downloaded this program (without permission from us) and within a span of 20 minutes saw chat asking if avatars could "have sex". I was mortified to learn that they were chatting with a self-described 38 year old man. I was further disgusted to see in reviewing the chat logs that people said "fuck you" and "suck my dick." What a great website for kids.............
