I Love Baseball

Imagine what the American economy would look like if high school and college athletes didn’t have to go to school.. In the Dominican Republic, they don’t.

100% of the players in the baseball academies don’t sign a MLB contract but 100% do drop out. Since only ~2% sign contracts with MLB teams, 98% of the players go back to their towns and villages without an education.

The cycle of poverty accelerates.

ILB is trying to change this by making it possible for baseball and education to be ‘played in the same day.’

Today, ILB runs an an academy in Barahona, Dominican Republic where currently 31 young athletes go to school everyday while pursuing their dream of becoming Major League Baseball players. It’s our model academy.

In 2008, ILB became an official program of Children of the Nations (cotni.org).
