Hunchers.com is a platform for hosting Sport Prediction Communities. Sport Prediction Communities consist of very enthusiastic and loyal members who discuss upcoming sporting events; they then compete with their virtual peers to see who will better predict the results of these events.
Hunchers.com takes care of the whole prediction process: it publicizes upcoming events, records member predictions, announces the results when they become available and keeps track of the points members have accumulated. In addition, in order to garner the growing worldwide popularity of sports, the site was designed with multilingualism in mind to ensure a large potential user base.
Hunchers.com presently covers soccer, basketball and American football, though is designed to support all kinds of sports with Tennis and Baseball next to be implemented.
Being an active member of a Sport Prediction Community fulfills an individual’s need for belonging, need for interaction, and based on the quality of their predictions, that individual’s need to be appreciated by his/her peers.
But can crowds better predict the results of sporting events than a handful of experts? Well, a book published in 2004 with the intriguing title “The wisdom of the crowds” says that they can. We intend to answer this question very soon.
