GreatCall is an MVNO and the parent company of the new Jitterbug service (phone offered by Samsung). Targeted towards those who are looking for the opposite of a feature rich smart phone, GreatCall’s Jitterbug is a simple device which offers a few very clear options for its users. Two phones are offered currently, both go for $147. The Jitterbug “Dial” looks like a regular phone with an extra large, well lit keypad. The “OneTouch” is a simple clamshell device with a total of six buttons: power, yes and no buttons and an “operator”, “tow” and “emergency” button. Both phones make calling, receiving calls and listening to voice mail very easy. If the menu and keypad is still too much of a hassle users can call the operator who will connect you to anyone on a list of contacts you provide. Additionally, voicemail, voice dialing and call history can be shut off or on.GreatCall is certainly targeting a niche audience of mobile phone users, but it is a large and untapped niche. Babyboomers and their parents have been historically hesitant to adopt mobile technology, but GreatCall hopes to slowly introduce them to the wireless world without any annoyances or frustrations.
