Going.com (previously HeyLetsGo.com) let’s users connect with other event-goers before, during and after events. The site has over 500,000 users which isn’t bad considering the site currently only operates in four cities (New York, Boston, San Francisco and Chicago). The site is trying to become the local entertainment destination for 20 somethings in the cities mentioned above. So far they are doing pretty well – from January 2007 to July 2007, the site grew twelve-fold. Going has said that their future plans consist of expanding their platform and moving into new markets.
The two venture capitalists who have led investments in Going and sit on the board, George Bell and Bob Davis, used to be rivals. They respectively lead Excite@Home and Lycos.
There are many other event sites out there including Zvents and Eventful, but most aren’t focusing on the 20 something crowd. Another site that could be looked at as competition is nightlife social networking site LateNightShots, but it’s currently dedicated to Washington DC.

If you live in one of the cities that Going services (New York, Boston, San Francisco and Chicago) it’s a great way to find and post events. When listing an event users have the option of having it posted publicly or privately. After that, who/what/where/when/why and other basic information needs to be entered.
When an event is posted publicly anyone can find it by going to Going.com where events are sorted into Nightlife, Culture, Music and Activities categories. Each event shows event related information, a comment section and who is going. When an attendee is clicked on, you are taken to their profile. Profiles show age, location, friends, pictures, groups, upcoming and past events and more.
In addition, Going has partnered with BuyYourFriendADrink.com in a deal that allows New York area Going.com members to buy drinks for their friends directly from their profile page. Drinks can then be redeemed at more than 60 bars and restaurants in the New York City area.
Going recently launched a Facebook application. The application helps users find events, see what their friends are up to and share their favorite places.
