Fondu (formerly SpotOn) is a community for sharing bite-sized reviews about places to eat and drink. Users write a short review of a place they’ve visited and give it a rating of 1-4 “petals” that gets pushed to their followers in the community.
With the combination of reviews and ratings, users have a flexible, yet descriptive system to talk about places with other people. When a review receives enough “cheers†and comments from other users, it becomes a popular review that can be viewed by location or globally.
After launching SpotOn as an NYC only beta at TechCrunch Disrupt NYC in May, the team spent a lot of time refining the recommendation engine and testing with users. Based on extensive user feedback, the team decided to evolve their product into a social network for bite-sized reviews and renamed the company to Fondu.
