Faketown

Faketown is a 2D virtual world involving gaming and social networking. It’s different from many other virtual worlds in the fact that users don’t need to download anything - Faketown is played directly in your browser. Also, it’s aimed at an older audience (14 to 35 years old) than many of the other virtual worlds.

Faketown, which once was one of the first in the virtual world market, now has a fair amount of competitors including Habbo Hotel, Second Life and Red Light Center.

Once registered, you can create a profile, build a virtual home, create drawings, upload mp3s and videos, and more. You can have multiple “Fake IDs,” which simply represent you in the game. Also, as a resident of one of Faketown’s many towns, you get to vote in the weekly mayoral elections.

Faketown runs on the “fake coin” currency, which can be obtained through the game or by buying it with real world money ($1.00 buys you 100 fake coins). Once you have coins, you can buy items from other users through Faketown auctions.
