DietBetter is pioneering Social Dieting.
Our first product, DietBet, is a game that brings people together to lose weight. Players bet into the pot and commit to lose 4% of their starting weight in 4 weeks (DietBet 4) or 10% in 6 months (DietBet 10). Everyone who reaches the goal splits the pot. By making weight loss collaborative, competitive, and fun, we’ve transformed a dull chore into a fun community activity.
The results have been extraordinary – over 90% of players lose weight. Since we launched in Jan 2013, we’ve paid out over $2 million to people who have reached their weight loss goals with our platform (on average winners lose about 9 pounds a month).
Harvard Med School professor Nicholas Christakis has said that obesity is a social disease that requires a social solution. We agree. In addition to developing new products, DietBetter is working with Brown Medical School’s Weight Control and Diabetes Research Center to build a scientific foundation around our Social Dieting solution.
