Dictionary.com is a free online dictionary service. The service is just one aspect of the Reference.com, which also features an online thesaurus, encyclopedia, and language translator.
Reference.com was launched by InReference, Inc in February of 1997. The site was later acquired by Lexico Publishing Group. On July 3, 2008, InterActiveCorp acquired Lexico Publishing Group and its three properties: Thesaurus.com, Reference.com, and Dictionary.com.
