Husband and Wife team Ryan and Melinda Gallagher founded ConnectMeAnywhere.com, a VOIP service which launched in September of 2006. CMA provides users with a list of locally accessed VOIP access numbers, enabling calls all over the world to be treated as local calls with VOIP connections.

ConnectMeAnywhere takes a user’s provided phone numbers and converts them into local-access VOIP networks, which essentially makes long-distance calls cost the same as local calls. In addition, users can also have web pages and blogs read to them, send voice mail to designated groups of people, and leave what CMA calls “vmail,” mp3 messages sent from a phone into a person’s email.A number of other VOIP providers exist today. Rebtel provides a similar service, converting numbers into local access points. Other names to the VOIP list include Hullo, and Jajah. For the moment, VOIP providers like these appear to be too much trouble for people. That, coupled with the fact that traditional phone rates are getting gradually better, creates an uphill battle for the VOIP community.
