Cloudant is a hardware startup claiming to “revolutionize the home router” by allowing routers to simultaneously download multiple parts of a file. Cloudant participated in the Y Combinator Summer ‘07 funding cycle.
The hardware technology will maximize bandwidth usage by opening multiple connections to a site and download multiple chunks of a file in parallel. The Cloudant router will also have other advanced features, such as network security out of the box, creating a peer to peer content distribution network amongst the routers, and embedded applications pre-installed on the box.
Cloudant plans to release a beta by May 2008.
Cloudant evolved from SlapVid throughout the Y Combinator process.
