CLEARme

CLEAR is a membership-based secure identification program which fast tracks its members through airport security lines. It relaunched U.S. operations on November 9, 2010, and now operates at Denver International Airport and Orlando International Airport.

Members pay a $179 annual fee to go through Clear dedicated “CLEARlanes” instead of the regular airport security screening lines, bypassing the TSA Travel Document Checker (who reviews travelers’ boarding passes and ID). CLEAR offers a family plan for an additional $50 per year.

Previously, CLEAR operated in 18 airports but it ceased operations on June 22, 2009. In May, 2010, Algood Holdings (New York, NY) purchased CLEAR from bankruptcy for a reported $6 mil, reinstated the website, and announced that CLEAR will start operating again “Late summer, 2010” (as per their site).

Algood executives have, as of July, 2010, taken the executive positions of CLEAR (clearme.com/clear-team).

CLEAR has two step enrollment process. In the first step, candidates are asked to submit biographical information including social security numbers, driver’s license numbers and previous home address for the past five years. If accepted to the program, applicants are asked for a visit to one of the CLEAR Enrollment Stations in which a CLEAR attendant verify their government issued identification, capture images of their irises and fingerprints, and take their photographs.

After these two steps, members are provided with a high-tech card which allows them to access designated airport security fast lanes.
