At 11:00 p.m. PST on June 22, 2009, Clear ceased operations. Clear’s parent company, Verified Identity Pass, Inc. had been unable to negotiate an agreement with its senior creditor to continue operations.
Clear provides accelerated security pass for its members in airports. Clear is contracting with TSA and individual airports to offer fast airport security lanes nationwide. Clear members are pre-screened and provided with a special pass which allows them to access fast security lanes. Service costs $171 per year plus the TSA vetting fee of $28.
Clear has two step enrollment process. In the first step, candidates are asked to submit biographical information including social security numbers, driver’s license numbers and previous home address for the past five years. If accepted to the program, applicants are asked for a visit to one of the Clear Enrollment Stations in which a Clear attendant verify their government issued identification, capture images of their irises and fingerprints, and take their photographs.
After these two steps, members are provided with a high-tech card which allows them to access designated airport security fast lanes.
Clear currently serves 18 airports.
