Cerego Japan Inc.

Headquartered in Tokyo, Cerego is the company behind iKnow!, a social learning platform currently focused on language learning.

iKnow! initially launched with a service focused on helping Japanese people learn English, attracting ~300,000 users in its first year. In November 2008, iKnow! expanded its offering to enable users from all over the world to create learning content in any language.

Cerego has developed learning algorithms based on research in the fields of cognitive science and neuroscience. These algorithms power iKnow! and are increasingly being exposed through their Open API.

The company’s long-term goal is to expand their offering to enable users to learn any kind of fact-based information faster, remember it longer, and manage their knowledge online.

iKnow! (www.iknow.co.jp), represents the first phase of a platform that combines personalized learning applications and content creation tools in a collaborative, social environment. This site currently has a specific focus on one domain, language learning.

The next phase is a global offering that facilitates the acquisition of knowledge across multiple domains. The iKnow! platform will enable users to consume, create, re-mix, share, and manage learning content of any kind.

I have started using iKnow recently to learn Japanese and its a great way to learn. On their website they say the following: "Our base service is free forever for all users. In the future, we’re planning on providing paid services for premium subscribers, as well as introducing intelligent advertising. These new premium services will fund our continuing innovation for the entire community."
