CampusLIVE is a website launched in 2008, that offers students discounts, product trial and chances to win prizes in exchange for participating in brand campaigns. The site runs competitions called “challenges” on a game-like platform. Students who sign up to the site may enter a challenge to win prizes from a sponsoring company. Challenges may consist of something as simple as joining a company’s Facebook page, answer a relevant survey question or upload a photo. Students participating in CampusLIVE challenges become online brand ambassadors. CampusLIVE offers a unique pay-for-performance model for clients, focusing on the growing Cost-Per-Engagement fee structure. Instead of purchasing banner advertisements that result in paid clicks (CPC) or impressions (CPM), CampusLIVE only charges for successful “engagements” with a sponsoring brand. Clients include McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts, Microsoft, Budweiser, Ernst & Young, and Converse.
CampusLIVE was featured in the September issue of BusinessWeek’s 2008’s “Best Entrepreneurs 25 and Under.” The team ranked #3 in the nation. In 2011, CampusLIVE was featured in a Fox Business segment titled “The Next Facebook?”.
As of 2012 the site was active at 1200 college campuses in the United States. In February 2010, CampusLIVE received at least $340,000 in seed funding [3]. In March of 2011, CampusLIVE received $3.1M in financing from Highland Capital Partners and Charles River Ventures.
