Barcelona Music and Audio Technologies, BMAT, is a technological start-up specialized in digital music products and services. BMAT´s solutions are being integrated in search engines (e.g. Comperio-Fast, Exalead), music distributors (e.g. The Orchard), on-line shops and social networks (e.g. Musana), portable devices (e.g. Yamaha) and chips (e.g. Intel). Together with a Japanese entertainment company, BMAT has established a sister company in Japan (www.bmat.jp).

BMAT is a spin-off company of the Music Technology Group (MTG) of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, the world’s largest research group in music and audio, and operates under an exclusive license for their latest technologies.

Founded in 2006 and supported by a research and development team of more than 30 people, BMAT has become a global reference in digital music technology. BMAT has developed a search engine that enables computers and electronic devices to understand and interpret music in the same way as humans. The search engine provides music discovery and recommendation, smart playlist generation, song identification, voice & audio transformation, media content personalization and music-based social networking; solutions aimed at redefining the music experience with real, sensible and intelligent sound control and interaction. The company supplies all industry layers: from content delivery companies and multimedia production studios to platforms, distributors and mp3 player manufacturers.
