Founded in 2002 by Eric Olsen as a group blog publishing mostly reviews, Blogcritics soon grew into a full-fledged, professionally edited online magazine with reviews, interviews, and news articles and commentary. Barbara Barnett and Jon Sobel became Executive Editors in 2010, and their company, Critical Lens Media, acquired the site in 2014.
Blogcritics.org, one of the world’s longest-running and most respected online publications, has been acquired by Critical Lens Media, Ltd. from former owner Technorati Media. Critical Lens, owned by Blogcritics’ executive editors Barbara Barnett and Jon Sobel, will continue, and broaden, the site’s coverage of the arts, pop culture and current events. The magazine will maintain its relationships with its editorial staff and its large cadre of contributors while also recruiting fresh talent. “We’re very pleased that we’re going to be able to steer Blogcritics in a more focused direction and keep it growing in the new age of mobile,” Sobel says. “It’s an excellent opportunity for us, now as editor-publishers, to build on Blogcritics’ 12-year foundation by marketing creatively, further integrating social media, and more, so the publication can reach its full potential.” “I am looking forward to taking Blogcritics to the next level, deepening our coverage of music, television, books, movies, theater and current affairs,” says Barnett. “With a solid editorial vision that focuses on quality original content – reviews, interviews, in-depth feature stories, and opinion pieces – Jon and I hope to build Blogcritics into the place to come for reading about and discussing all things entertainment, culture, and society.”
