Blist is a web-based database expected to be released in 2008. It requires no knowledge of SQL, the database language, and is generally designed to be easier to use than Microsoft Access. At the same time, Blist provides sophisticated functionality to attract database application developers. Blist provides an API for applications to link up to and allows users to create views, or lenses, equivalent to queries in traditional databases. Blist supports 14 data types that can be viewed in table mode, page view, and calender view for data associated with dates.
Blist takes advantage of its web architecture by allowing users to share databases with other users. Users can also spread the data across the entire internet with widgets.
Blist’s web-based competitors include DabbleDB , Trackvia, ZohoDB, and Quickbase. Long term, however, Blist plans to compete with traditional database vendors Oracle, MySQL, and others.
