babyTEL is redefining telephony for the Social Network generation by creating a free, comprehensive telephony service, including voicemail, caller-initiated messaging, call conference and instant messaging, that is deeply integrated within Social Networks.
This Social VoIP service can be upgraded to be a complete home phone replacement, including a local phone number in the U.S. and Canada, 911 emergency service, competitive long distance rates and FindMe to connect calls to a user’s mobile phone. The backend is provided by babyTEL’s own technology, developed in-house to telco-grade standards.
In 2007, babyTEL launched the Telephone application for the Facebook platform. Its main user interface is the eggphone, babyTEL’s exclusive platform-independent Java softphone. This industry first launches directly from the web in seconds, includes the user’s social contacts and provides access to voicemail, IM and other services. The eggphone is also customizable with skins and ringtones.
The eggphone can be integrated into any Social Network or social application using babyTEL’s upcoming Voice API, which will allow developers to implement advanced telephony features and participate in a revenue-sharing affiliate program.
eggphone contacts will be kept orderly by the Universal Directory, a federated identity management system that connects to multiple Social Networks, third-party social applications via the Voice API, and legacy directories such as Outlook. Each Phone Book automatically self-populates with the user’s social contacts, while ensuring that all contacts show up without redundant entries, regardless of where they came from.
