Axel Springer AG, formerly Axel Springer Verlag AG, is a Germany-based media company that is engaged in publishing newspapers and magazines, as well as the operation of digital sales channels.

It operates in five business segments: the Newspapers National segment includes all German newspapers and advertising supplements, the Magazines National segment encompasses all the magazines distributed in Germany, the Print International segment includes all the newspapers and magazines published outside Germany, the Digital Media segment encompasses all the online activities in Germany and abroad, also including, for example, the portals of the BILD Group and the WELT Group, as well as the activities and investments in the television and radio sector and the and Services/Holding segment consisting of the Company’s own newspaper printing plants.

As of December 31, 2009, the Company had 99 subsidiaries in Germany, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Poland and France, among others.
