Avego provides software and hardware systems for improving transportation efficiency. Avego’s products use GPS, web and mobile technologies to enable and support sustainable transportation projects.
The company is best-known for its iPhone application that turns cars into buses by enabling consumers to share their excess, wasted seat capacity with other consumers on their daily commute.
Avego also provides solutions for ground transportation ticketing and real-time passenger information (RTPI), for commercial passenger transport operators, including cities, buses and tram networks.
Led by a team with an extensive history in geographic information systems and GPS technologies, Avego has offices in Ireland (Kinsale and Dublin), the United States (Washington, DC, and Silicon Valley, CA) and China (Dalian).
Avego’s transport expertise spans customers as diverse as Transport for London, the Ministries of Transport for the UK and the Netherlands, the European Space Agency, cities and public transport operators from Dublin to Madrid, and thousands of individual consumers and private transport operators in 80 countries worldwide.
Avego was originally founded as a division of Mapflow Limited (Dublin), but became a separate company in April 2009. As of June 2010, the company employs about 50 people worldwide.
