Austhink Software was founded in 2004 by Tim van Gelder, an Australian cognitive scientist. Austhink develops software supporting critical thinking and decision making, in both business and education. In its software, it uses argument mapping, the use of graphical techniques for handling complex argumentation. Argument mapping has been shown in extensive research to be very effective in building critical thinking skills.

bCisive is Austhink Software’s decision mapping software application. It is designed to support workplace decision making, facilitate collaboration on decisions and improve institutional memory by creating a record of the reasoning behind decisions reached.
Using a drag-and-drop interface, users build diagrams of their decision process, including options considered, arguments for and against, and supporting evidence. bCisive decision maps and their linked supporting documents can be shared and viewed using a free bMap Bundle Viewer. bMaps can also be exported as images for use in other applications such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
