Alta Communications is a principal investment firm specializing in investments in later-stage opportunities. The firm also considers early-stage investments particularly in the traditional media sector. It prefers to invest in media and telecommunications sectors. Within media, the firm invests in radio broadcasting, television broadcasting, cable television operators and networks, online media, lead generation and direct marketing, content, place based media, publishing and information services, outdoor advertising and other out-of-home media, movie exhibitors, ethnic and other niche media platforms, traditional media investments (outside the United States), and alternative media. In the telecommunications sector, it invests in wireless operators (including rural cellular and PCS); wireline carriers (including incumbent and rural local exchange carriers); CLECs, Alternative Carrier, and other competitive broadband service providers; tower operators; outsourced service providers; and wireless spectrum acquisition and development. The firm typically invests between $8 million and $40 million in transactions, but can invest larger amounts if required. It makes both control and minority investments and can act as the sole investor or co-invest with others. The firm invests for a period of five to eight years.
