Founded by Robert Gentel as an ask an expert community, able2know became a startup in 2008 in order to develop custom software to expand the knowledge sharing and social features of the community. In August of 2008, an alpha version of the site was released bringing folksonomy to the community and providing a basis for the knowledge sharing social network.

Featuring questions and discussions on a variety of topics, the community demographics feature educated adults who engage in discussion, debate, and Q&A.
