3D Solar is a UK startup company, setup and owned by Patrick Levy Rosenthal, which develops 3D-imaging computer screens. The company was the first to create a prototype in which the projection of an image, a ball, could be seen 13 inches away from the screen and yet the user was able to hit the ball directly with their hand, without the need for any special equipment or interface. 3Dsolar continue to create products with the aim of increasing their users’ interactive experience, the most recent being Tronme. Tronme is a downloadable software that allows people to remix music tracks on their computer using the mouse and the webcam to control the audio and visual effects. 3D Solar receieved the 2005 IST Prize from the European Council for Applied Science, Technology and Engineering.
Tronme: TronMe software is a patented multimedia player, developed by 3D Solar, using a proprietary interactive video and Interactive music audio format the IVS which appeared early 2006 in the United Kingdom.
TronMe is a player which allows several actions on track and video; there are the different segments of the song; the verse, chorus, bridge, introduction and the different instruments used on each track are also separated; each track is broken down into bits. The user takes these building blocks and makes their own unique live video mix of the song.
3D Solar display: The patented[3] 3D Solar display devices create a 3D image of objects hovering 13 inches away from the screen. The object can also appear to rotate 180 degrees without the need for specialised glasses. Users are able to manipulate the virtual image directly with their hands as they would a real object.
Because each image is created using a single 2Dview, content providers will not have to incorporate hundreds or thousands of separate images to create the 3Dsolar effect thus enabling them to re-focus on their core business and develop 3D images more rapidly.
3DSolar SDK is free of charge allowing software developers and content providers to directly interact with the 3Dsolar units.
Simon Jones, PhD, DSc, CEng Managing Director MediaLab Europe MIT Media Lab commented “The 3-D capability the resolution of the images and the interactivity, make it one of the most impressive technologies I have seen for a long time.”

TronMe (www.tronme.com) is downloadable software that allows you to control and remix your favorite music and record your own interactive visual music video to go with it. This can then be shared with the world via YouTube, broadcast via Skype or MSN, or added onto Facebook or MySpace via a widget. If you’re voted one of the most accomplished videos then you can win prizes and rewards such as free tracks or tools to use on your player.
TronMe is your passport to creating music your way. It is a fully interactive experience in which you take control of your favourite music tracks. You are about to get the chance to remix your own version of the music using a simple click of the mouse.
There are three ways in which you can personalize your music. The first is to download a track in the full IVS format. This is the most interactive experience you can have! In IVS format all the different elements of the song are broken down so that you can play and rebuild it to your heart’s content. You can also download tracks in IVS that allow you to loop inside parts of the track and you can rebuild the song in this way. Finally, there are lots of visual effects available to you to make your video look just right. Don’t forget you can control the music by movements on your webcam so don’t just sit there! Dance, jump, move and make your video look as good as the music sounds!!!
Once you are happy with your remix you can share your video with the world. You can broadcast live on Live Messenger, Skype and Mogolus or you can record as an .avi or .mp3 and post your track onto youtube! Who knows, fame could be just around the corner!
But that’s not all! You can also get a widget code from the TronMe menu that you can insert on your Myspace or Facebook page. This will display a vote button to your visitors and your points will increase every time someone registers a vote by pressing the button. The more votes you get, the higher your score goes and with a higher score comes free tools, songs and special effects!
If you don’t want to share your performance of a track then, of course, you don’t have to. You can still record your version as an .mp3 and load onto your .mp3 player just for your own pleasure. Don’t forget that when you buy a song from the TronMe website you are then free to produce as many versions of that song as you wish. It is yours to play around with for as long as you want and, of course, the revenue from the sale of the track will be shared with the artist and writer of the music.
Every week new tools and tracks will be loaded in your player for you to try for free, so come back weekly to make sure you get the most out of TronMe.
