2thinknow has world’s largest cities data set to find and measure global economic opportunities in the innovation economy.
The company have created processes, algorithms, metrics and data tools that make it possible to measure, compare and change economic performance at the cities level. in this process they have used web technology to research and build a larger database of cities data from lean operations.
Cities house 50% of the world’s population, but data available is primarily national. According to their website, the firms clients and prospects include city government bodies in Asia, Canada, Europe and USA; and companies like NEC and others. The firm set up the Innovation Cities Program, free Innovation Cities Index and City Benchmarking Data program to grow the market penetration for innovation in cities.
Competitors include a stalled World Bank project, and Economist and Mercer data projects. These projects are not the core business of their operations. And in all cases their data collection size is smaller, and their cost of collecting data higher (estimate 350%).
